“Listen, don’t keep your meetings on Monday.”
“Listen, don’t keep your meetings on Monday.”
These words reached my ears in the cafe. Proximity of tables and chairs meant even if someone talked softly, you can overhear.
You may say bad manners by both him and me, but when something this interesting reaches your ears, you can’t help but listen.
I figured a corporate Leader was talking to one of his direct reports. Having been a Coach Leader and now, as an Executive Coach, my ever curious listening was on.
“But I need to have important discussions with my team members,” I imagined this response from the other side because the Leader said,
“Meet your team members informally, if needed,” the Leader continued.
The response from the other side might have been, “I have something very urgent to look into and decide” because the Leader, now mindful of many listeners around and also the partner seated in front, concluded,
“I want you to spend some alone time thinking about the same before the meetings.
And more than that, please do not spend your weekend worrying about the upcoming Monday and the work issues.
These are your personal days, be with your family, meet your friends, pursue your passion. Have a great weekend!”
I imagined a delighted “Thank you, happy weekend” from the other end.
I threw an appreciative glance at him. He understood and nodded.
What I could see:
- One can be the Leader who is ever mindful of the team’s wellbeing.
- If less meetingful, Mondays can become even more meaningful.
- Our personal time is for ourselves; our family, friends; passions.
- Great weekends are more likely to result in better Mondays.
What is your take? I will love to hear from you.
Wishing you Great Weekends and Meaningful Mondays!!
