“Your virtual background for zoom meets is very impressive.”

I often hear this comment at the beginning of almost all my webinars or virtual coaching sessions.

And I inform them it's not virtual but real and that the books that you see are just a part of our collection, bought/read over decades. To prove the point, I often pull out a book, mostly my own authored book, ‘The Penta Life’📘, a proud addition to our huge collection of books.

Few days back we celebrated ‘World Book Day’, and as a bibliophile and a published author, I felt like sharing my thoughts with you📔.

I am sure, you will agree, books play a quintessential role in our life by introducing us to a world of imagination, providing a glimpse of the outside world. Books enhance our knowledge and provide information📕.

Books help us in broadening our horizons and also act as doorways to connecting us with our world. Books cast their influence and leave an impact on us. They function as our survival kits as well 📖.

Charles W. Eliot aptly said, “Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”

We get exposure to alphabet, numbers and story books early in our lives and the books keep partnering us in our academic journey. I got hooked on books of all kinds, even scriptures, very early in my life📙.

Learner being my first strength, the reading journey continued unabated, even in professional life. I bought my first book, ‘The Self Talk’ in the second week of starting my first job. As I grew, the job entailed more travelling, giving me opportunities and time to buy books and read 📗.

Books have been my friends and partners in my journey and evolution all through my life and career. Books have added to my being and becoming. Sincere gratitude 🙏.

I believe our books reflect us, and we reflect the books we read.

Sharing a message by Audrey Azoulay, DG, UNESCO, “Books have the unique ability both to entertain and to teach. They are at once a means of exploring realms beyond our personal experience through exposure to different authors, universes, and cultures, and a means of accessing the deepest recesses of our inner selves.”

I so agree with him and will conclude by saying,

“We are our Books, and the Books are Us.”
