Today, on ‘World Humanitarian Day’, we could not have spent our morning better than being at ‘Bombay to Barcelona Library Café’.
In Marol, Andheri East, Mumbai, ‘Bombay to Barcelona Library and Café’ combines the tranquility of a library with the vibrant energy of a Café’.
What makes it special?
It is a social project, and all the staff who work here are homeless people.
Started and nurtured by Amin Sheikh, a former street child who had a very tough childhood. After a long and difficult period on the streets, luckily for him, the ‘Snehasadan’ orphanage took him in.
Amin grew up in a supportive environment and became a young man, standing on his own and even taking care of others.
He enjoyed the love, trust and confidence of a benevolent soul who helped him to travel to Barcelona. Over a month there showed him a different world, a different life to draw a lot of inspiration from.
After he came back to Mumbai, Amin kept building himself up and supporting the needy. Ultimately, he launched his envisioned social project, ‘ Bombay to Barcelona Library Café’.
The project focuses on Noble Work; Education & Training; Accommodation for the homeless youth and Food for the undernourished children.
Stepping into the cafe, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and an array of delectable treats greets visitors. From artisanal coffees and aromatic teas to mouthwatering snacks and desserts, the menu caters to diverse palates.
Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast or a quick mid-day snack or a late evening eat out, the cafe has something to satisfy every craving.
It regularly hosts literary events, book launches, author discussions, and workshops. It promotes local talents and aspirers.
Amin Sheikh’s story should inspire all of us to keep doing our bit for all those human beings who are not as fortunate as us.
We all should be grateful to Amin for taking care of many needy through his amazing social project. We, too, can pitch in by strengthening his hands.
