“Please put on your own oxygen mask first….”.

The airlines’ emergency dictum is so apt. You need to take care of yourself before you take care of others.

As we celebrate #InternationalSelfCareDay’, it is important to remind ourselves to take care of ourselves.

In the fast-paced world you live in, taking care of yourself often takes a backseat. However, #selfcare is a fundamental aspect of your well-being that you should never overlook.

Self-care helps prioritize our physical, emotional, and mental #health. By embracing self-care, you are nurturing your mind, body, and soul.

You may say, prioritizing myself sounds so selfish. I would say, when you take care of yourself, you can take care of others in a much better way.

Presenting Self-Care through 3 Lenses: What, Why & How

SELF-CARE: THE WHAT

1. Self-care is the intentional practice of nurturing oneself physically, emotionally, and mentally.

2. Self-care involves activities that promote relaxation, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.

SELF-CARE: THE WHY

1. Mental and Emotional Well-being: Taking time for self-care helps reduce stress, anxiety, and burnout. It promotes mental and emotional stability.

2. Physical Health: Regular exercise, healthy food, and enough rest are important for self-care. Prioritizing physical health boost.

3. Increased Productivity and Creativity: Self-care rejuvenates the mind and enhances focus. It leads to increased productivity and improved problem-solving abilities, fostering creativity and innovation.

SELF CARE: THE HOW

1. Identify Your Needs: Reflect on what brings you joy, relaxation, and fulfilment. Determine your physical, emotional, and mental needs.

2. Prioritize Self-Care: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Set boundaries and allocate specific time for self-care activities.

3. Activities That Nourish You: Take part in physical activities and hobbies you enjoy. Practice mindfulness and meditation.

4. Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness, understanding, and forgiveness. Be gentle with yourself and avoid self-judgement.

5. Seek Support: Build a support network of friends, family, or professionals who can provide guidance and encouragement.

In the book The Penta Life, in the first section, I have presented Self Life, the first key to a true and lasting Happiness, Wellbeing & Success.

In an ever-on world that often prioritizes external demands, self-care is a vital practice for maintaining overall well-being. By embracing self-care, we empower ourselves to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Remember, self-care is not a luxury; it is a necessity for our mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

As you embark on your self-care journey, prioritize yourself and take time to nurture your mind, body, and soul.

In conclusion, I would say,

“Be your own priority. You owe it to yourself.”
